International Lesbian Day

03/10/2023

International Lesbian Day, held annually on 8 October, is a day to celebrate lesbian history, diversity, visibility, and culture. It is all-inclusive and a day to be shared by both lesbians and allies.

The day was first observed in Australia in 1990 and is believed to have started in either Australia or New Zealand. In recent years, observers have encouraged the community to get together and show support by donating to charities supporting lesbian women.

The NSW Bar Association is committed to supporting a Bar that reflects, and is inclusive of, the diverse composition of Australia’s society. The Association’s LGBTQI Principles on Inclusiveness have been developed for the benefit of members and their Chambers/Floors.

For further information about LGBTQI inclusiveness, please see the resources and supports available on the Association’s Supporting LGBTQI Inclusivity webpage.
