Volunteers needed – Open Day for Women and Gender Diverse Law Students
05/10/2023

Friday, 20 October 2023
The Diversity and Equality Committee and the Women Barristers Forum are pleased to be jointly hosting the first in person NSW Bar Association Open Day for Women and Gender Diverse Law Students since the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the Open Day is to inform women and gender diverse law students about a career at the NSW Bar and provide them with the opportunity to observe the work of judges and barristers in their day-to-day practice.
We are calling for volunteer barristers to assist with taking groups of women and gender diverse university students to courts and chambers between 9.45am – 12.00pm on Friday, 20 October 2023.
Volunteer barristers will be allocated a small group of students to take to a court to observe proceedings, as well as to their chambers to show the students what chambers look like and to have an informal conversation about day-to-day life as a barrister and the pathways to joining the NSW Bar. Ideally, each student group will be jointly led by two barristers from the same chambers.
Prior to the visits to courts and chambers, the students will listen to a panel discussion in the Bar Association’s Common Room with the Honourable Justice Julie Ward, President of the Court of Appeal, the Honourable Justice Dina Yehia of the Supreme Court of NSW and Ragni Mathur SC, Co-Chair of the Diversity and Equality Committee.
If you are able to volunteer your time, please complete the form here.
We thank you in advance. The success of the Open Day depends upon the generosity of the barristers who kindly volunteer their time.
If you no longer wish to receive In Brief, please notify the Bar Association's
