From Afghanistan to Australia: Perspectives on gender and the law before and after resettlement

Her Honour Judge Tupman of the District Court of New South Wales, will be chairing a panel of female Afghan judges who resettled in Australia after the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in 2021. They will discuss their experience as judges in a civil law system, including a comparison between the systems in Afghanistan and Australia. The panel will also discuss issues of gender equality and pathways to legal practice in Australia available to resettled Afghan judges.
This event is a joint initiative by the Women Barristers Forum, the Diversity & Equality Committee and the Women Lawyers Association of New South Wales.
The CPD will be taking place at New Chambers, Level 34, 126 Phillip St, Sydney on 1 November 2023 at 5.30pm. Refreshments will be served afterwards. Members in attendance will be eligible for 1 CPD point. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased here. Ticket numbers are limited.
