The Bar Council is aware that many barristers have been affected by the continuing shocking events in Israel and Gaza, either directly or indirectly, and on account of extra security measures, and a rise in levels of vilification in Sydney. We are aware that there is a practical and emotional toll which may increase for our members as events continue to unfold. The Bar Council is concerned that members know that they are not alone, and we are here to support you in practical ways. This includes liaising with the Courts and counsel in relation to sensitivity to unexpected demands on affected lawyers on account of security measures in place that may impact on members’ ability to be present on time at meetings, and latitude with demanding timetables, and also ensuring that our members know that they and their immediate families, can access counselling services through BarCare.
