Mardi Gras

Diversity

Starting 16 February 2024 is Sydney’s 46th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, a festival which celebrates and provides a voice for members of the LGBTQIA+ communities, allies, and friends. Originating from the 1978 street festival turned protest, the annual Mardi Gras parade is held on the first weekend of March each year and this year Sydney marches on 2 March 2024. The theme for this year’s Mardi Gras is “Our Future”, encouraging a collective journey to define and shape the future, together.

The Bar Association is committed to supporting and celebrating its inclusive and diverse Bar which strives to reflect a full composition of Australia’s society, including people from the LGBTQIA+ communities. The Association’s LGBTQI Principles on Inclusiveness have been developed for the benefit of members and their Chambers/Floors.

For further information about inclusiveness for LGBTQIA+ people, see the Association’s Supporting LGBTQI Inclusivity webpage and information from ACON on safety and inclusion.
