Sunday, 13 October 2024 marked the beginning of National Carers Week. National Carers Week is an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and raise awareness of the millions of Australians who provide unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, mental health condition, chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug dependency, or who is frail.

Most Australians are likely to care for a friend or family member at some point in our lives. Many don’t identify as carers and are unaware of the services and supports available to assist them.

Carer Gateway provides a range of supports and services to carers around Australia, including information and advice, peer support, free counselling, coaching and training.

Carers Australia also has a range of resources available on its website, including information about the NDIS and general carer wellbeing.
