Members are reminded that the Hon Justice Richard White will be formally farewelled at a ceremony in the Banco Court at 9.15am on Thursday, 19 December 2024. All members of the profession are welcome to attend.
Justice Richard White will retire from the Court at the end of this year’s Law Term, having served for more than 20 years on the Supreme Court including almost 8 years as a judge of appeal. His retirement will coincide with the 50th year of his admission to practice.
Chief Justice Bell has observed that “Justice White is renowned for his deep knowledge of the law and the principles of equity, as well as for his courtesy and excellent judicial temperament. His Honour’s scholarship has imbued his judgments, both as a judge of the Equity Division and on the Court of Appeal. He has also made very significant contributions to the Supreme Court’s broader work, including service on the Education Committee, as Chair of the Legal Qualifications Committee (2006-2012) and as a member and then Chair of the Law Extension Committee (2017-2024).”
