Federal Court of Australia: Notice to the Profession

Chief Justice Mortimer has issued a Notice to the Profession regarding a new next generation initiative.

The notice provides background to the Next Generation Initiative Practice Note (GPN-NGI) published on 30 October 2024.

By the Practice Note, the Court encourages parties to promote the use of junior counsel in cases where two or more counsel are briefed, where it is appropriate to do so. The initiative aims to foster the development of the next generation of senior counsel by facilitating opportunities for junior counsel to gain experience in addressing the Court on substantive matters, rather than only on matters such as objections, submissions on costs, and other “housekeeping” topics.
