Bar Association objections to covert search warrants are "quite proper"

The Bar Association's critical analysis of the Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Amendment (Search Powers) Bill 2009 was aired during debate in the Legislative Assembly yesterday. The shadow attorney general, Greg Smith SC, noted that the bill has "attracted considerable criticism by stakeholders such as the New South Wales Bar Association", which he described as a "relevant organisation for the purposes of amendment to the criminal law". Mr Smith quoted the association's "detailed briefing note" and proceeded to read the full text of the Bar Association's media release into the Hansard. Learn more >
