Heads, shoulders, knees and toes: the Compendium of Workers Compensation Statistics

The Australian Safety and Compensation Council has published the _Compendium of Workers Compensation Statistics 2006-2007. _Some of the more salient results include the following:
>> There were 132 055 serious workersâ compensation claims in 2006â07, which equates to 14 claims per 1000 employees or nine claims per million hours worked.
>> Men accounted for 68 per cent of all serious claims with incidence rates for male employees almost twice that of females: 18 claims per 1000 male employees compared with 10 claims per 1000 female employees.
>> Almost one-quarter (23 per cent) of all serious claims involved the back. Other common bodily locations were hands (13 per cent of all claims), shoulders (nine per cent of all claims) and knees (nine per cent of all claims).
