09/04/2009

The Queensland committee for the Australian Insurance Law Association together with the Queensland Law Society are very pleased to present the 2009 Insurance Intensive on 14 - 15 May 2009 at Noosa Sheraton Resort. The program is presented by leading experts from around Australia, Canada and the United States of America. Themed "Insurance – The next move" the Insurance Intensive is aimed to provide delegates with guidance on many of the latest issues facing the Insurance Industry, particularly with respect to the financial down turn.

Keynote speaker, General Peter Cosgrove AC MC, will deliver a timely presentation on allocating resources and managing natural disasters, drawing upon his years of experience as Commander of the Deployment Joint Force Headquarters, Chief of Amy and Chief of the Defence Force in Australia. Most importantly from an insurance point of view, the General oversaw the reconstruction efforts after Cyclone Larry and is superbly placed to comment on the issues facing co-ordination of resources after large insurance events. Other keynote highlights include an update on the state of Insurers and financial institutions in extraordinary times by Dr Andries Terblanche, Chair of Financial Services, KPMG Australia, an insight into Director's and Officer's Insurance from Warren Tapp, a leading company director and an overview of all the latest professional indemnity caselaw around Australia. Additionally Martin Davies, Admiralty Law Institute Professor of Maritime Law; Director, Tulane Maritime Law Centre, Tulane Law School, will deliver a paper on contractual indemnities, dual insurance and contribution issues with reference to emerging overseas caselaw and the programme feature a practical proportionate liability workshop convened by Peter Dunning SC.
