Law Council lodges submission to the National Consultation on Human Rights

The Law Council today lodged its submission to the Australian Government’s National Consultation on Human Rights, calling for the adoption of a Charter of Human Rights at the federal level. Law Council President John Corcoran said, "Despite Australia’s sound political and legal system, basic human rights such as the right to liberty, the right to freedom from torture, the right to free speech and the right to adequate housing remain inadequately protected under Australian law."
