New police powers to disperse drunken groups

06/05/2009

The New South Wales Government will introduce legislation empowering police to disperse groups of people who are "noticeably affected", instead of "seriously affected", by alcohol or drugs and are likely to damage property or threaten public safety. Minister for Police Tony Kelly says the move will harmonise definitions provided by the Law Enforcement Powers and Responsibilities Act 2002 and the Liquor Act 2007.
