Study finds few benefits from the high cost of juvenile detention

The Australian Institute of Criminology has published a report on recidivism among juvenile offenders. The Specific Deterrent Effect of Custodial Penalties on Juvenile Reoffending found no significant difference between juveniles given a custodial penalty and those given a non-custodial penalty in the likelihood of reconviction.
