The president of the New South Wales Bar Association, Tom Bathurst QC, has paid tribute to Director of Public Prosecutions Nick Cowdery QC for his dedicated service since 1994.
âMr Cowdery will be remembered for his resolute defence of the independence and impartiality of criminal prosecutions in New South Walesâ, Mr Bathurst said.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions was set up in 1986 in such a way as to ensure public confidence in a criminal justice system that is free from political and personal interference.
âAt all times Mr Cowdery fulfilled the duties of his office. He is, and will remain, an exemplary DPPâ, Mr Bathurst said.
Mr Cowdery has announced that he will retire in March 2011.
