National legal profession reform consultations

Attorney-General Robert McClelland has released the National Legal Profession Reform draft Bill and accompanying materials for public consultation. The consultation package includes draft national conduct rules for barristers and solicitors prepared by the Australian Bar Association and the Law Council of Australia, a consultation report from the National Legal Profession Reform Taskforce, a regulation impact statement, and independent economic analysis conducted by ACIL Tasman. Note for downloading / printing: the consultation package is 362 pages long.

The New South Wales Bar Association is a constituent body of both the Australian Bar Association and the Law Council of Australia. The Bar Council will have its input into the consultation process through those national organisations. The president would welcome any comments or suggestions members of the bar may wish to make to him to assist the Bar�Council in formulating its views.
