Generous crown prosecutors come to the aid of the Myanmar Eye Care Programme
22/03/2011

The New South Wales Crown Prosecutors have responded to Gary Gregg's recent call for financial assistance by collecting and donating to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Opthalmologists's Myanmar Eye Care Programme in excess of the **$4,000 **needed to transport the vitreoretinal microscope to Myanmar.
Myanmar (formerly Burma) has one of the world's highest rates of blindness, with millions of adults and children needlessly blind. The needs of the people are not addressed by the government, so the Myanmar Eye Care Program steps into this breach. Run by Sydney ophthalmologist Dr Geoff Cohn, it depends on donations from the public and the generosity of Australian eye surgeons and nurses who fund their own travel and expenses to Myanmar. The volunteers assist and train six teams, which are located at Buddhist monasteries. A cataract operation costs $23 in disposables. The program has located a used Zeiss vitreoretinal microscope, but needs more than $4000 to ship it to Myanmar. And they need your help to do so. Learn more about the program>
Please give generously by sending a cheque to The Eye Foundation (a registered charity of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists), which collects for donations for the programme. Please write "For Myanmar Eye Care Programme" on the back of the cheque. Make the cheque payable to "RANZCO Eye Foundation" and send to:
