An update on Wi Fi Services in federal and state courts

The Federal Court is piloting WiFi technology at the Law Courts Building in Queens Square in order to gauge the� likely level of useage by practitioners, along with its effectiveness in enabling practitioners to access material while in the courtroom or surrounds, such as mediation rooms.� At the time of writing, there is a WiFi service operational for courtrooms only on Level 18, Level 21 (Western end) and Level 22 (Eastern end), although it is expected that WiFi technology will be� operational on Level 19 in the near future.

The court has advised that if� the results of the WiFi pilot warrant it then the service may be installed in other registries subject to funding.

New South Wales Courts

NSW Courts are currently considering the policy and cost implications of both the use of internet access services by the profession and court users and the possible provision of those services by the courts themselves. �The Department of Justice and the Attorney General has indicated that it will be interested in the results of the current Federal Court pilot.
