More research to challenge the "lock 'em up and throw away the key" mentality

Last month In Brief reported on the results of groundbreaking Australian Institute of Criminology study of public views on sentencing in Tasmania. Further good news has emerged from Melbourne, where a report by the Sentencing Advisory Council shows that almost three quarters of Victorians surveyed supported increasing the use of alternatives to prison, such as supervision, treatment and community work.
