NSW Criminal Court Statistics 2010

09/05/2011

The workload of the criminal courts in New South Wales has declined, and the vast majority of people charged with criminal offences in 2010 were convicted of at least one offence according to the annual criminal court statistics report released today by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research. The report also noted a 25 per cent decrease in the Local Court in persons imprisoned for driver licence offences (from 945 in 2009 to 712 in 2010). According to BOCSAR, the fall is largely attributable to a drop in the number of persons charged with "drive while disqualified" by police, something that will "ease the upward pressure on the NSW prison system".
