Southport sports law conference: registrations will close tomorrow

The Sports Law Conference and Suncorp "State of Origin" Football Challenge is open to _all members of the bar and the judiciary _(both players and non-players). The weekend's events kick off at�the Gold Coast�on 10 September 2011. The conference will be held at the Vibe Hotel, Surfers Paradise from 9.00am to 12.00pm. The Annual Football Challenge Cup will proceed from 1.00pm at Bond University. Attendance attracts 1 CPD point per hour (not including injury time or penalty shootouts).

The conference will be chaired by Wayne Cochrane, a judge of the Land Court of Queensland and �feature papers to be delivered by:

  • Graham Turnbull SC “When physical contact on the field becomes a crime”
  • John Marshall SC “Anti-doping in sport.”
  • Dr Elisabeth Peden/Daniel Tynan: “Issues of construction in sports contracts”.

A panel (consisting of John Marshall SC, Lachlan Gyles SC, Simon Burchett and John Harris) and to be chaired by John Maconachie QC will discuss experiences in preparing and appearing before sports�tribunals.

A conference dinner and presentations will be held at the Vibe Hotel from 6.30 pm (at additional cost). Special discounted conference rates have been secured from the Vibe Hotel.
