NSW Government introduces amendment to sentencing procedure
21/10/2011
The O'Farrell government has introduced into the Legislative Council the Crimes (Sentencing Procedure) Amendment (Children in Vehicles) Bill 2011 to make the presence of children anexacerbating factor during the sentencing of drivers for a number of serious traffic offences. The opposition has criticised the bill as "tinkering" and pointed to the fact that judges already take such factors into consideration. Notwithstanding this critique, Labor will not oppose the bill.
