BOCSAR report shows probability of arrest more likely to reduce crime rates

The Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research has published its report, The Effect of Arrest and Imprisonment on Crime, assessing the extent to which the probability of arrest and�imprisonment, as well as the length of�prison term, impact on property and violent crime rates in New South Wales.�Among its findings, the report notes that�'policy makers should focus more attention on strategies that increase the risk of arrest and less on strategies that increase the severity of punishment'.
