It's official: John McCarthy QC appointed ambassador to the Holy See

Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Foreign Minister Bob Carr have announced that John McCarthy QC will�replace the Hon Tim Fischer AC as�Australia's�ambassador to the Holy See. Mr McCarthy is expected to take up his appointment in September 2012. McCarthy QC was admitted to the New South Wales Bar in September 1976 and took silk in 1988. Since 1988 he has served as the Bar Association's representative on the Legal Aid Commission's Legal Aid Review Committee No.1. In September 2006 he was appointed a knight commander of the Order of St Gregory the Great for his�outstanding contribution to�The Thomas More Society. NSW Attorney General, Greg Smith SC, has welcomed the appointment
