Immigration information session

The Department of Immigration & Citizenship will be conducting an information session on Monday, 14 May 2012 between 3.30-5pm at the DIAC offices on level 5, 256-300 Elizabeth Street Surrey Hills (between Albion & Foveaux Streets) in respect of the introduction of the Migration Amendment (Complementary Protection) Act 2012 which came into effect on 24 March 2012.�

The purpose of the changes is to allow claims that may engage Australia’s non-refoulement obligations found in other key international treaties to be considered under a single protection visa application process under the Migration Act 1958.

The information session will cover

  • An overview of Complementary Protection (CP) and related changes to client processes;
  • Overview of the new legal framework for assessing CP;
  • Key concepts for decision makes and agents; and
  • Overview of the decision making process
