Match report (albeit delayed): NSW Bar FC v Treasury United
23/07/2012

Last Thursday, in possibly their most skilful performance of this season's Domain Soccer League, NSW Bar FC braved the icy conditions to take on the might of table leaders Treasury United. Bar FC held off wave after wave of punishing forays into its half to holdtheir opponents scoreless at the end of the first term. It was not all one way traffic though, with Treasury United being forced to repel blistering assaults by Afshar, Clark, Maghami and Stanton with only a fair measure of luck depriving the ball of its rightful place at the back of the net.
Special mention to Philips, de Meyrick, Covell and Captain Harris (in goals) for their steely reserve under pressure. Mahony increased her "tough lady" reputation by leaving the field (momentarily) with a bloodied nose (her opponent was carried off!)
The second half started as strongly as the first but with Bar FC in command. Treasury struck first with an unconvincing goal which deflected awkwardly from the upright just beating the good Captain. Bar FC struck back with drive and determination with Afshar and Clark cruelly denied. Afshar's reward came with a penalty kick 7 minutes before the final whistle, converted superbly by Gyles SC (and on his birthday no less).
The result, a respectable 1 all draw.
Next Game v Ausgrid
Their next game is against second-placed Ausgrid on Thursday, 26 July 2012 at 1.15 pm. With only 4 games left in the seasonBar FCneed every win if they are to retain any prospect of a semi-finals berth. (Due to an unfortunate series of circumstances including Reserve Bankâs shock win over Ausgrid, Bar FC are currently placed 6th [or last]).
