Appointments to the High Court and Federal Court

Commonwealth Attorney General Nicola Roxon has announced two judicial appointments. The Hon Patrick Keane has been appointed to the High Court of Australia, while the Hon James Allsop has been appointed to succeed him as the next chief justice of the Federal Court. Chief Justice Keane's appointment will follow the retirement of the Hon Justice JD Heydon AC on 1 March 2013. NSW Attorney General Greg Smith SC has welcomed the appointments, as has the Law Council of Australia.
