Motor accident victims will suffer under NSW Government plan

18/02/2013

The Bar Association has slammed the NSW Government’s radical plans to introduce a no-fault motor accident compensation scheme. President Phillip Boulten SC said the scheme "will deny accident victims legal representation and endanger their right to proper compensation”. You can read the association's media release **here.**

Premier Barry O'Farrell has been out selling his government's plan, and was interviewed on the Alan Jones breakfast radio program this morning. A copy of the transcript is held in the Bar Library.

The _Sydney Morning Herald _ran a story today, which quoted Boulten SC. "The attack on the rights of the injured comes while motor accident insurers are making excessive profits under the existing scheme,'' Mr Boulten said. "Over the last decade, insurers have retained profits on average over 20 per cent. These super profits are projected to exceed $1.5 billion."

As part of its strategy to change the CTP Insurance Scheme, the NSW Government has invited comments from the public. Visit "Have your say" on the MAA web site for more information about the proposal, and to leave your comment.
