The cab rank rule: is it the end of the line?

08/03/2013

On Thursday, 14 March, UNSW will host an important seminar by Professor John Flood on the cab rank rule, followed by a panel discussion. The event will take place at 6-7:30pm in the Law Building, UNSW Kensington Level 2, Staff Seminar Room. RSVP by Tuesday 12 March to Justine Rogers: j.rogers@unsw.edu.au Light refreshments will be provided.

The Legal Services Board, the new UK oversight legal services regulator, commissioned Professor John Flood, a legal sociologist, and Professor Morten Hviid, an economist, to examine the workings of the cab rank rule. Using empirical and theoretical research they investigated in depth how the "rule" works to the advantage of the Bar and solicitors and potentially against clients. They raise the question of whether it is the end of the line for the cab rank rule.
