The NSW Government's right to silence and defence disclosure bills, the Evidence Amendment (Evidence of Silence) Bill 2013 and the Criminal Procedure Amendment (Mandatory Pre-trial Defence Disclosure) Bill 2013, were read for a second time in the Legislative Assembly last night. The attorney general's second reading speech can be viewed here. The Sydney Morning Herald this morning ran a story on the bills, and included comment from President Phil Boulten SC. The president has also appeared on ABC Radio 702 this morning. A transcript is held in the Bar Library.
