Law Council survey: a message from Senior Vice President Jane Needham SC

21/05/2013

On 6 May 2013 an article appeared in In Brief with respect to the Law Council of Australia’s National Attrition and Re-engagement Survey.

The survey has been prepared in order to obtain quantitative data and confirm trends in progression and attrition rates of both male and female lawyers. The Law Council of Australia will use the survey results to formulate practical measures that will address the causes of attrition rates among women lawyers and re-engage women lawyers who have left the profession. Accordingly, data from both men and women is vital for the success of the survey.

The survey is open to current practising lawyers, lawyers who have never practised or lawyers who are no longer practising. It should only take 20 minutes to complete, and is available on the Law Council’s website. The closing date for the survey has been extended to Friday, 31 May 2013.

The response rate to date has been substantially lower than anticipated. The goal of the survey is an important one for this association, and I encourage all members to complete the survey.
