Mandatory sentencing - a change for the better

Amendments to mandatory sentencing legislation passed in the Legislative Council last night represent an improvement on the government’s bill, the president of the New South Wales Bar Association, Phillip Boulten SC said today. In response to concerns expressed in parliament by Premier Barry O'Farrell that the legislation doesn't apply to reckless 'wounding', the association released a media brief explaining why the application of s 34A should be limited to grievous bodily harm.
