Appeal for clemency for Noura Hussein

Ms Noura Hussein Hammad has been convicted and sentenced to death by the Central Criminal Court of Omdurman for killing her husband in self-defence at the age of 16 after being subjected to forced marriage and rape. UN Women has issued a joint statement with the UN Population Fund and the UN Office of the Special Adviser on Africa on 13 May calling for clemency for Ms Hussein. Additionally, Amnesty International has issued a statement titled Sudan: Death Sentence for Raped Teenager is a Intolerable Cruelty.
The President Arthur Moses SC has expressed the Association's support for the #JusticeforNoura campaign and will write to the Australian Government requesting it make diplomatic representations to Sudan on her behalf.
