Refugee Advice and Casework Service (RACS) – J4R Update

18/07/2018

Since it began operating in June 2016, RACS’ judicial review referral service for fast track applicants (J4R) has, with the invaluable assistance of members of the NSW Bar, provided 170 clients with pro bono advice on their prospects of success on judicial review. Of those, 64 advices identified reasonable prospects of success and the matters have been or will be run in the Federal Circuit Court. RACS is very grateful for the assistance you have provided to achieve this and know that the clients are as well. With more fast track applicants needing advice, RACS has secured funding for J4R for the solicitor and paralegal roles for this financial year to continue the service. So if there are any barristers who have not yet provided assistance, there is still an opportunity to do so. In lending your expertise you will be able to develop or enhance your administrative law skills and provide services to vulnerable clients who cannot reasonably be expected to pay for legal services themselves. High quality training materials are available. Contact To express interest in participating in J4R please contact Nadine Darling at RACS by phone on (02) 8317 6536 or by email on nadine.darling@racs.org.au. If you have already been participating and have capacity to provide an opinion at the moment we would also appreciate hearing from you.
