Law reform and public affairs

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Each year, the Human Rights Awards recognises the amazing work being done in our communities by ordinary Australians, organisations, businesses and community groups to further human rights and freedoms in Australia.

Last year’s Law Award recognised a diverse range of legal practitioners, with finalists including Canberra Community Law’s Socio-Legal Practice Clinic, Helen Pearce, the Refugee Advice and Casework Service (RACS), Vincent Shin and Western Community Legal Centre - Wyndham Branch and David Woodroffe.

Nominate by 5 August to make sure they get the recognition they deserve! The nine Awards categories are:

  • Human Rights Medal
  • Young People’s Human Rights Medal
  • Business Award
  • Government
  • Racism. It Stops With Me Award
  • Media Award
  • Tony Fitzgerald Memorial Community Individual Award
  • Community Organisation Award
  • Law Award

Hurry to make sure those who deserve to be recognised, are recognised. Details and nomination forms are online at http://hrawards.humanrights.gov.au
