The Kirby Cup Mooting Competition
13/11/2019

Mooting
Western Sydney University Law School held its fifth annual Kirby Cup High School Mooting Competition for legal studies students on 28-29 October 2019 at the Parramatta South Campus. Members of the Bar Association generously donated their time and expertise to judge the competition.
The barrister-volunteers were:
- Frank Hicks
- Amy Douglas-Baker
- Sandrah Foda
- Michael Swanson
- Valerie Heath
- Eva Elbourne
- Ali Cheema
The competition provides high school students with a unique opportunity to learn about the legal system and the role of lawyers, as well as engage in higher order legal skills, such as written advocacy and developing oral arguments. Teams work together to consider and write arguments for both the appellant and respondent in a hypothetical case, using contemporary practices and current legal principles.
If you wish to volunteer for subsequent Kirby Cup competitions, or any other WSU Law moots, please contact Ms Sandy Noakes at WSU: S.Noakes@westernsydney.edu.au
More information about the competition is available on this YouTube video.
Participation in mooting is an initiative of the Wellbeing Committee.
