Women Barristers Forum hosts Maldives Defence Minister Didi

At the invitation of DFAT, WBF hosted an afternoon tea for the Defence Minister of the Maldives, Ms Mariya Didi yesterday. Minister Didi has responsibility for Counter-terrorism and Defence in the Maldives. She is a barrister trained in the UK and the first female lawyer in the history of the Maldives. Minister Didi is also the first woman to be elected as Chairperson of a major political party and the first woman to be appointed Minister of Defence in the Maldives. A number of Judges and barristers attended the afternoon tea, at which Minister Didi, who has a passion for gender equality, spoke of her experiences as a lawyer and politician in the emerging democracy of the Maldives.
