Extension of Charge Certification Period in the Local Court - Christmas shutdown

14/11/2019

The Chief Magistrate wishes to advise of his decision to approve the NSW DPP’s request to temporarily extend the charge certification period usually required under Local Court Committals Practice Note 2 (available here) to take account of the compulsory Christmas shutdown period. Accordingly, his Honour has extended the adjournment period for charge certification from 6 weeks to 8 weeks until the end of term for 2019.

Magistrates have been advised of this change and should make orders in accordance with the extended period for those matters where charge certification is affected by the Christmas shutdown.
