'A Bush Tucker Night' for the Indigenous Barristers' Trust

21/11/2019

More than 100 members of the Bar and friends attended last night’s ‘A Bush Tucker Night’ – raising in excess of $16,000 for the Indigenous Barristers’ Trust. Attendees sampled gourmet bush tucker, tasted Green Ant Gin and purchased deadly art from Boomgate Gallery, Jarin Street, Saretta, Frances Belle Parker and Badger Bates. The chance to appear alongside Deborah Mailman and Rachel Griffiths in the ABC show Total Control was hotly contested at auction by Dominic Toomey SC and Peter McGrath SC, but was eventually won by a determined Ertunç Özen SC.

Many thanks to Tony McAvoy SC, Chris Ronalds AO SC, Janet Manuell SC, the First Nations Committee and the staff of the Public Defenders’ Office for their hard work in bringing the event to fruition.

The Indigenous Barristers' Trust - The Mum Shirl Fund - provides financial and other assistance to Indigenous barristers and makes grants to law students who aspire to practice as advocates but who may face significant financial disadvantages preventing them from completing their law studies.
