Appointments to the Supreme Court, District Court and Local Court

Supreme Court of NSW

Edward Muston SC (7 Wentworth Selborne) and James Emmett SC (Banco Chambers) have been appointed judges of the Supreme Court of NSW. Mr Muston will be sworn in on December 2 and Mr Emmett on December 4.

Also, from February 2026 the Hon Justice Natalie Adams will assume the roles of Judge of Appeal and Chief Judge of the Common Law Division. She will succeed the Hon Justice Ian Harrison who will become Acting Justice and Acting Judge of Appeal.

District Court of NSW

Kenneth Averre MBE (Forbes Chambers), Philip Hogan (Deputy Senior Crown Prosecutor, ODPP), Paul Marr (ODPP) and Magistrate Philip Stewart (Local Court of NSW) will join the District Court as judges in early 2026.

David Coulton (ODPP) and James Howard (Judicial Registrar, District Court of NSW) have been appointed to the Local Court of NSW, commencing on 23 February 2026.
