The Australian Institute of Judicial Administration (AIJA) and the Migration Council of Australia will host the 2015 Cultural Diversity and the Law Conference, to be held in Sydney on 13-14 March 2015 at the Sofitel Wentworth. Panels will discuss, among other things, best practice for judicial officers in a multicultural courtroom; strategies for tribunals in dealing with culturally diverse cases; and what every practitioner should do to ensure justice for culturally diverse clients. Keynote and plenary speakers include the Hon Robert French AC, chief justice of the High Court of Australia and the Hon Wayne Martin AC, chief justice of Western Australia and chair of the newly established Judicial Council on Cultural Diversity. The chief justice of Victoria, the Hon Marilyn Warren AC, will be speaking on ways of aiding public trust and community engagement, while the former chief justice of the Family Court, the Hon Alastair Nicholson AO RFD QC, will address international perspectives on the access to justice.

Speakers on a panel on "justice, security and terrorism" will include the Hon Anthony Whealy QC, and the Australian National University’s Dr Clarke Jones, an expert on the radicalisation of prisoners in jail and an opponent of the isolation and segregation of inmates with extremist views.
