Forbes Society legal history tutorials for 2015

The Francis Forbes Society for Australian History has announced a revised program of legal history tutorials. The program will commence on 5 May 2015 and conclude on 4 November 2015, with a break in the middle of the year to accommodate other fixtures in the legal profession's education calendar. The tutorials, with one exception, will be presented in the Banco Court and will commence at 5.10pm and conclude no later than 6.10pm. Light refreshments will be served. The tutorials are open to all members and friends of the Forbes Society (which is to say, everybody) without charge. The program, as revised, comprises the following tutorials:

  • An Introduction to Australian Legal History by Emeritus Professor Bruce Kercher (introduced by the Hon Keith Mason AC, QC): Tuesday, 5 May 2015.
  • An Introduction to Roman Law by Justice Arthur Emmett: Thursday, 21 May 2015.
  • The History of Property Law by the Hon John Bryson QC: Tuesday, 2 June 2015.
  • The History of Criminal Law by Justice Richard Button and Nick Cowdery QC: Tuesday, 16 June 2015.
  • The History of Contract Law by Acting Justice Peter Young: Wednesday, 26 August 2015.
  • The History of Tort Law by Judge Nick Manousaridis: Tuesday, 8 September 2015.
  • The History of the Law of Restitution (Quasi Contract) by Chief Justice James Allsop: Wednesday, 7 October 2015 (to be held in the Federal Court on L21)
  • The History of Equity by Chief Justice Tom Bathurst: Thursday, 22 October 2015.
  • The History of Statutory Interpretation by Justice Ashley Black: Wednesday, 4 November 2015.

Justice Stephen Gageler will deliver this year's Whitmore Lecture (in the Federal Court of Australia, on Level 21 of the Law Courts Building, Queen's Square) on 19 May 2015, commencing at 5.30pm for 6.00pm.

This year's annual Forbes Lecture will be presented by Emeritus Professor David Barker (on Wednesday 11 November 2015) on the History of Legal Education in Australia. Please diarise these dates.
