Arbitration workshops
02/06/2015
The ADR Committee is holding three arbitration workshops from 5.00pm to 7.00pm on successive Wednesdays: 5, 12 and 19 August 2015. The first two workshops will serve as an introduction to and an update on the NSW and Commonwealth arbitration legislation and issues relating to arbitrations generally for all barristers. The third workshop will deal with award writing.
Attending all three workshops will offer members with a minimum 7 years’ experience as legal practitioners and a practising certificate the opportunity to become approved arbitrators under the BarADR scheme.
Attendees who wish to be approved as arbitrators will be required to sign in at the door. They will also be required to lodge an application form for approval and write an arbitration award based on a scenario which be provided by at least the third workshop. The closing date for applications will be Wednesday, 16 September 2015. Arbitrators approved by Bar Council will be listed on the bar’s website.
Members who do not fulfill the requirement of 7 years’ practice are invited to attend to increase their expertise in this area. Consideration will be given to approving those who can demonstrate substantial expertise in a particular area.
