Arbitration workshops continue tomorrow

11/08/2015

The second in a series of three arbitration workshops to be held this month will be held tomorrow, 12 August 2015 at 5.00pm in the Bar Association Common Room. Presenters include the Hon Justice Rares, Julie Soars, Greg Burton SC and Greg Nell SC. Ian Davidson SC will be the chairperson.

The workshops offer members with a minimum of 7 years’ experience as legal practitioners and a current practising certificate the opportunity to become Approved Arbitrators under the association’s BarADR scheme. Those members who are seeking approval will be required to attend all three seminars, write an arbitral award based on a scenario to be handed out at the final workshop and submit an application form. Attendees are requested to sign in at the door for each workshop.

Arbitrators who are already approved by the Bar Association are not required to seek re-approval but are welcome to attend these seminars, including to gain the 1 hour of arbitration training required every 2 years. Similarly, members who do not fulfil the requirement of 7 years practice or who do not wish to apply to be an approved arbitrator are invited to attend to increase their expertise in representing parties at arbitrations.
