Bar FC bow out of the championship race

01/09/2015

What a difference a week makes. A rejuvenated Sydney Business School challenged Bar FC in a semi final under clear blue skies yesterday following last weeks wet success by Bar FC against them. The score was level at the end of normal time after Di Michiel finished a beautiful pass from Habib SC and Sydney Business School scored a goal against the run of play. Chances to Bar FC were coming thick and fast particularly after heeding manager Stanton’s advice to play the ball on the ground and quickly. Notwithstanding such dominance, Sydney Business School defended well, led by a large English contingent.

Extra time saw more chances fall Bar FC’s way however the finishing touch eluded us. A special mention should be made of the fine defensive work of both Ivan Griscti and Jonathan Clarke who managed to extinguish much of the opposition's attacking play. This meant after 60 minutes of hot and gruelling work the fate of the semi final was to be decided on the dreaded penalty shoot out. With keeper Harris in goals, Bar FC were dreaming of the final however this year was not to be our year. Sydney Business School defeated Bar FC 4-1 on penalties.

Many thanks to the team today and for all players in Bar FC for their seasons efforts. Whilst the Domain Soccer League is over for the year, our thoughts and energies now turn to the Tri-State Competition planned for 10 October 2015 in Melbourne.
