For the diary: International Humanitarian Law Fundamentals

The Red Cross will host a seminar on International Humanitarian Law Fundamentals on Saturday, 26 September, which will examine the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols and other international issues associated with armed conflict. A follow up seminar on Alternative Experiences of Conflict will be held on Saturday, 24 October from 9.30am-4.30pm. It will focus on overlooked groups, how they experience armed conflict and the special protections they are afforded.
Guest speakers
Kirsten Keith, former legal officer for the prosecution at the Special Court for Sierra Leone, will speak about sexual violence prosecutions at the international tribunals.
Dr Shireen Daft, who recently completed a PhD in international law, will speak about child soldiers.
Emma Phillips, former UNHCR protection and refugee specialist, will talk about vulnerable groups in refugee camps.
The course will be held at the St Andrews House office, level 4, 464 Kent St, Sydney. A light lunch is provided.
