International Day of Women Judges
07/03/2024

Yesterday was the United Nations’ International Day of Women Judges, celebrated annually on 10 March.
The International Day of Women Judges is an opportunity to promote the full and equal participation of women at all levels of the judiciary, celebrate progress that has been made, and a reminder of the call to action to develop and implement national strategies for the advancement of women in judicial justice systems.
At June 2023, the Australasian Institute of Judicial Administration Inc reported that women represented 43.7% of magistrates and judges in NSW courts (an increase of 8.9% since 2013 and 2.8% since 2022). It was also reported that women represent 39.4% of judicial officers in the Commonwealth courts (a 5.7% decrease since 2022 but an 8.6% increase since 2013).
