International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
21/03/2024

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on 21 March, the day the police in Sharpeville, South Africa, killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid “pass laws” in 1960.
The 2024 theme of the International Day is “A Decade of Recognition, Justice, and Development: Implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent”.
The International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is nearing universal ratification. However, many individuals, communities and societies continue to suffer from the injustice and stigma of racism.
