Bar FC 4-0 victory

30/05/2024

Bar FC maintained their unbeaten start to the season today after easing to a clinical 4 nil victory over Perpetual FC. The result propels Bar FC into the unheralded waters of outright first place on the ladder with a return of 13 goals scored and one conceded from the opening four fixtures.

The opening exchanges of today’s game had Bar FC initially on the back foot. Philips in goal, shielded by Larish, d’Arville and Munro at the back, repelled a number of Perpetual attacks. The pendulum swung to Bar FC when Coutinho came on to a loose ball at the edge of the area and blazed a rising volley into the roof of the net to open the scoring. The lead was doubled after Speirs and Pace combined in the midfield to seize possession which released Smith, who battered it beyond the wrongfooted goalkeeper from just outside the box. Olson and Sivanathan continued to offer the attacking threats to keep Bar FC in control as half time arrived. The second half was initially evenly balanced, until a spell of possession saw Smith earn a free kick in a dangerous position. Smith stepped up to the dead ball and combined power, precision and a little panache to dispatch it into the top corner, relegating the hapless goalkeeper to the status of spectator. What a goal.

More scintillating football followed when d’Arville won the ball in his own half and initiated another Bar FC attack. d’Arville continued his run deep into the attacking third and the veteran defender found himself on the receiving end of a delightful through ball that he guided past the keeper to round out the scoring.

Bar FC’s next fixture is on 5 June in the Domain. All are welcome to participate or spectate.
