The Trustees of the Indigenous Barristers Trust the Mum Shirl Fund, sincerely thank Mrs Jill Finnane for the generous donation of $20,000 to the Trust, which has been made to the memory of her late husband, His Honour Judge Michael Finnane RFD KC.

So far as we are aware, this is the largest individual donation ever made to the Trust and is a mark of the commitment and generosity of Michael and the Finnane family to overcoming social disadvantage for Australia’s First Nations people.

The donation will allow the Trust to assist First Nations barristers and law students who aspire to practice as advocates and will help them to overcome the financial disadvantages that prevent them from completing their law studies and commencing practice at the Bar.

The Trust’s long-term strategy is to increase the numbers of First Nations barristers practising at the New South Wales bar.
